Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect

The long-term effects of child abuse and neglect in the lives of children, families, and communities are far-reaching. All Washington residents should be "eyes and ears" in their communities, reporting suspected abuse and neglect. Washington has a confidential process in place for reporting suspected abuse and neglect (of children and vulnerable adults). Transportation/Pedestrian Safety

Every day, young children are transported in cars and buses and walk through the streets of their communities. There are easy ways to ensure children are safe:

  • Make sure you appropriately secure your child in a child restraint seat appropriate for their height and weight.
  • Teach children about being a safe pedestrian.

Playground/Play Area Safety

Children love the challenges of climbing, running, swinging and balancing on play equipment. Whether children are playing on a playground, in the backyard or inside, the space should be safe for the age and abilities of the children using it.
