Centennial Accord Plan
The goal of the Centennial Accord is to improve relationships between the State of Washington and federally recognized Tribal Nations, to better achieve mutual goals.
The Centennial Accord provides a framework for government-to-government relationships. Each state government department director or agency secretary initiates a procedure for how the agency will implement the relationships. The procedure will establish goals for improved services and identify obstacles. Entities will meet annually to establish specific strategies and agreements, and outline tasks, responsibilities and timelines.
On September 12, 2008, DEL's Director and Tribal Nations leaders had a government-to-government meeting. The half-day long discussion centered on:
- sharing information around early learning issues, and
- how to develop a strong relationship under the Centennial Accord.

During this meeting, the group decided DEL will work to develop a Centennial Accord plan with the federally recognized Indian tribes. In the meantime, DEL will operate under the Department of Social and Health Services Communication and Consultation Policy.
