Fun food
When you’re hungry, it can be fun to make your own snack! Ask a parent or other grown-up to come with you to the kitchen to make one of these silly snacks. Remember to always have a parent help you when you’re in the kitchen. Some things in a kitchen are hot or sharp, so a grown-up needs to be in charge of them.
Does your family have a fun snack you like to make? Send it to communications@del.wa.gov. We may post your recipe on our Web site.
APPLE SMILES
- Ask a grown-up to core and slice 1 apple.
- Spread cream cheese or peanut butter on apple slices. Place mini marshmallows around the edge of one like teeth.
- Add 2 apple slices together, put on a plate with skin side showing and eat!
BAGS OF BUGS
- Ask a grown-up to help you put 2 graham crackers in a baggie and seal it.
- Crush the graham crackers with your hands until they feel like sand.
- Add your very own “bugs” to the sand, like chocolate chips or raisins!
ICY POPS
- Ask a grown-up to help you blend 1 cup guava nectar, 1 cup pineapple juice, and 1 cup pineapple chunks.
- Drop raspberries, blueberries or kiwi slices into small paper cups. Pour the blended juice into the cups over the fruit.
- Add a popsicle stick to the cup, cover and freeze!
SILLY SANDWICHES
- Ask a grown-up to help you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a turkey and cheese sandwich.
- Use raisins, Cheerios, shredded carrots, banana slices or cucumber slices to make silly faces on top of your sandwich!
