Key Communicators

Key communicators are Washington residents who help inform decision-making at the Department of Early Learning (DEL). They are parents, early care and education professionals, legislators and legislative staff, K-12 educators, public health experts, Tribal Nations representatives and many others who care about early learning and want to make their voices heard on DEL initiatives.

Just as importantly, key communicators share information from DEL into their own communities, so that residents in our state know about what’s happening in early learning.

Here’s how it works: When DEL is working on a major initiative, we will e-mail our key communicators occasional surveys, information and questions. Key communicators respond with their thoughts, input and suggestions, and DEL rolls that feedback into our decision-making.

Key communicators are voluntary. So far, they’ve helped shape our draft statewide Early Learning Plan and our Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS). If you would like to become a key communicator, or have questions, please e-mail communications@del.wa.gov.
