DEL launches new ‘Just for Kids’ Web site

OLYMPIA – The Department of Early Learning (DEL) today launched a section of its Web site dedicated to fun, educational information and activities for young children in Washington.

DEL’s “Just for Kids” site offers information on and links to a variety of topics for families, including:

  • Internet safety
  • Low-cost local family activities
  • Health and nutrition
  • Ways to help the environment
  • Fun facts about Washington
  • Financial literacy

“In this age when children sometimes have more computer knowledge than their parents, we wanted to create a resource that connects children and the adults who care for them with fun, age-appropriate information and activities,” said DEL Director Jone Bosworth. “We also wanted a site that parents can use to begin teaching children about using the Internet safely.”

Each page on the DEL “Just for Kids” site includes tips for parents and caregivers to encourage discussion and exploration with children.

DEL launched the site during October to acknowledge Family Involvement in Education Month, as proclaimed by Gov. Chris Gregoire.
